How to Easily Transfer Files from Your Windows PC to a VPS

Whether you’re a beginner or have been using the service for some time, you may occasionally need to transfer files from your personal computer. While there are various methods to accomplish this, the simplest approach is to enable a shared drive for access from your remote computer. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Launch Remote Desktop Connection

Start by opening your Remote Desktop Connection application and clicking on the Show Options button.

Step 2: Access Advanced Options

The application will expand to reveal advanced settings for your remote session. To configure a shared drive for easier file transfers, navigate to the Local Resources tab.

Step 3: Click on More Options

At the bottom, click the More… button to access additional options.

Step 4: Select Drives to Share

Expand the Drives section and check the box next to the drive you want to share with your remote computer. If your computer has multiple hard drives, you may see more local disks listed.

Step 5: Connect to Your Server

Click OK and connect to your VPS or dedicated server as you normally would. Once connected, open File Explorer from the taskbar at the bottom. If everything is set up correctly, your local drive should appear in the left-hand menu. Click on it to access its contents.

That’s all it takes to access your local storage from a remote computer. Now you can find the files you wish to transfer and move them to the appropriate location on your VPS.
